Chekku Sesame oil also known as Nallennai is one of the healthiest oils for cooking, skin and hair care. Nallennai is a staple in South Indian cuisine. From Vatha Kuzhambu to Idli podi, Nallennai lends a distinct aroma and flavour to the food.
WHY CHEKKU OIL?
When oil is extracted in modern machinery it generates high amounts of heat. Cold pressing is a technique in which the oil is mechanically pressed from the seeds at temperatures not exceeding 120F. The nutrients, which are usually destroyed by heat while refining, are retained in this method. Pure cold-pressed oil is not refined, processed or deodorised. It is also rich in antioxidants, which boosts immunity.
OUR PROCESS
Sun dried sesame seeds are placed in the marachekku and pressed with palm jaggery. The Chekku made out of the Vaagai (or) East Indian Walnut tree absorbs the heat produced during oil extraction. Since no heat is generated during the extraction of the oil, this method helps preserve the nutritional value of the sesame oil and lends a signature aroma and flavour to the oil.
The oil is then rested for a couple of days for the sediments to settle. After which it is filtered and packed. No preservatives are added to the oil or put through refinement processes.
Sesame oil has been traditionally used to reduce hair fall and body heat because of its cooling properties. Generously massaging chekku sesame oil on the skin and hair helps moisturise and improve skin & hair texture. Sesame oil is also used for oil pulling to improve oral and digestive health.
